Irish Fusee Wall clock H Sterling Limerick

This Irish Fusee Wall clock H Sterling Limerick has an unnamed movement that uses a relatively long pendulum for accurate time-keeping. The 12 inch painted iron dial is marked with Roman hours. The five minutes are marked by dots and other minutes by radial lines. The dial paint has some evidence of restoration. The hands have been re-polished, re-tempered and blued.

The glasses in front of the dial and in the lenticle below are old blown glass so they are probably original.

The case is softwood, veneered in Honduras mahogany.

Henry Sterling is know to have been working in George Street Limerick in the mid to late 1800s: Henry and Coughlan’s directory of 1867 lists him at 115 George’s Street, Limerick

There is a longcase clock by Henry Sterling in Limerick in Limerick Museum

A notice in the Limerick Chronicale of 1861, notes the death on 20th March of his son Charles, aged 11, son of watchmaker and jeweller, Henry Sterling. The address given was 2104 O’Connell Street.
